Are Fever And Sore Throat Suggestive Of HIV Exposure?
Can you tell me what I could expect from exposure to HIV...Not sure if I was but I have similar symptoms but not actual...I had a sore throat and a fever but what seemed to be a herpes out break....then a red extremely painful sort of rash on my hands..just red dots on fingers but no flaking or pus nor bleeding. Does this sound like the onset?
This is Dr. Viraj Shah, Master of Public Health understanding your concern and answering your query.
The symptoms that appear at the onset of HIV are similar to other viral or bacterial disease. It is not possible to confirm on the basis of symptoms if you have HIV or not.
I would advise you to go for ELISAblood test that detects the antibodies developed against the virus and can tell you 97% sure if you have HIV or not. The test can come positive as early as 10 days after the possible exposure to HIV to as late as 86 days after possible exposure to HIV.
Thus, you can count days after your possible exposure to HIV and go for ELISA test to confirm if you have HIV or not.
I hope this information helps you. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. Take care.
