Hello, and i hope I can help you today.
If you have gotten your period and have had negative
pregnancy tests, and especially if you are trying to prevent pregnancy (withdrawal is about 85 percent effective in preventing pregnancy) there is no way you can be pregnant. The most common sign of pregnancy is missing your period. However, pregnancy symptoms vary widely between women, and many of the symptoms we usually associate with pregnancy like
bloating, breast tenderness,
nausea,
fatigue, spotting and mood changes can happen in cases of
hormonal irregularities as well as pregnancy.
It is difficult to know exactly what may have been going on with friends or family who tell anecdotal stories about pregnancy. Many women have irregular cycles, and people can perform
pregnancy tests incorrectly.
In your case, your negative tests and getting your period only means that you did not get pregnant that particular cycle. You still have a 15 percent chance of getting pregnant per year using withdrawal alone for
contraception.
So in summary, your current symptoms cannot be due to pregnancy from your last cycle.
I hope I was able to adequately answer your question today and that this information was helpful.
Best wishes,
Dr. Brown
