Are Heavy Menstrual Periods Normal After Taking Effexor For Four Months?

My period has been getting heavier since I started on Effexor 4 months ago. This time it s day 4 of heavy bleeding and horrible cramps. I use a 30 ml menstrual cup, and it has to be emptied at early morning, mid-afternoon, and evening. Each time it has been almost full to the brim of thin, bright red blood with lots of clots. Sometimes my diva cup even unseals within 6 hours from overflow! This is not normal for me, and I ve been very sick the last several months. This kind of period could put me back in the hospital. Is any of this normal?

Hello,

Because you are experiencing these heavy bleeding you will need a visit to find its cause and also some tests to make sure you are not developing anemia.

You will need a gynecological examination and according to its findings the doctor might ask for a pap smear, cervical samples for chlamydia and gonorrhea and a transvaginal ultrasound.

If all these come out normal the doctor might give you some progesterone tablets.if the tests come out abnormal he will need to treat your according to the test results and the diagnosis that comes from them.
