Are High Levels Of AST And ALT Due To Taking Tramadol A Serious Problem?

Hi, I recently suffered a head/face injury (head to hear collision) during a soccer match which required 20 stitches. After a ct scan, I had a fractured right orbital. I was given ultram tramadol as pain killers and amoxicillin for antibiotics. I checked back into the hospital for excess vomiting, drowsiness, headaches. After a blood test I was told that I had high levels of AST (102) and ALT (87). Am I looking at something serious? I was told it could be because of the tramadol. I'm 19 years old, no alcohol, physically active and no allergies or diseases. Thank you!

Hi, Thanks for using HCM.

In case of any head injury, Tramadol needs to be given only when intracranial injury is ruled out. Should not be given to patient with intracranial injury.
Yes your symptoms are common side effect of tramadol ( incidence is more than 10%) Raised liver results are also seen with this medication. not to worry. You can repeat Liver function test after a month. Once tramadol induced raised levels comes back to normal.

Hope this helps you.

Regards
