Are Iron Supplements Given For Leakage From Heart Valves?
My mother just had a partial hip replacement. She is 93 years old as is having problems with her heart. She has high blood pressure and was having difficulty breathing the day after her surgery. They have done ekgs which have not been to off the charts, she had an echocardiogram which showed leakage from her heart valves. They are giving her iron intravenously and are now giving her blood. Are the blood and iron supplements for the leakage from her heart.

NO there is no relation between Iron supplements and leakage from valves of heart .
Most likely she is having Iron deficiency Anemia for which they are correcting it with Iron Injections and Blood . As anemia can aggravate heart failure .
Ask your doctor to find out the cause for Anemia and correct that also .
