Are Itchy, Burning And Watery Eyes Caused Due To Allergies?

Hi. I have been suffering from burning, itchy, watery eyes for a year or more now. Everything I have read indicates it is probably allergy related. I also have asthma, but have not had any asthma issues that correspond. I get some temporary relief from Opcon A, but have finally resorted to non-drowsy Claritan, which I am taking once a day. It seemed to help at first, but less so three months into this routine. Do you have any suggestions? Also, is it OK for me to take Claritan every day for an extended period of time?

Hi,

I have gone through your problems and I am of the opinion that the medication that you are using now is "Claritin" i.e; loratidine which is an antihistaminic drug that has no side effects like drowsiness.

However, long term usage of this drug is not recommended. you could use it only during allergic episodes. however, since you have asthma i would definitely not recommend long term use of antihistamines.

I would insist that you should visit your physician to get blood tests done and also especially eosinophil count.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
