Are Joints Pain In Shoulder, Ankle, Fingers And Feet Signs Of Lyme Disease?

my sister, age 55 suffers from what doctors can only describe as rheumatoid arthritis. She does not think she has this but Lyme disease maybe. Her joints hurt but the pain moves around from shoulder to ankle to fingers to feet. Diagnosis has been poly myalgia rheumatic?? This does not run in the family. Searching for what this may be as we don t believe it to be arthritis.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

There are tests for Lyme disease, generally blood tests such as Elisa and Westernblot so your sister may ask the doctor to conduct these tests to rule out Lyme disease as the cause of her joint pains.
On the other hand, rheumatoid arthritis has clear criteria for diagnosis and if she fulfills them, very likely she does have rheumatoid arthritis and she will need DMRAD drugs that modify the development of the disease.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
