Are Lower Abdominal Pain And Diarrhea About A Month After A Sexual Encounter Signs Of HIV?

After a possible exposure(unprotected vaginal sex) having had sex with a lady whose status I dont know ..at about 3/4 weeks after the encounter I started experiencing diarrhoea which lasted a week and lower part abdominal ache...this prompted me to go for a rapid hiv antibody test using determine and it immediately showed a reaction but faint line on patient area and it remained faint after 20 min...and the control line was bold enough. Now am scheduled for a confirmatory test... I am so worried and stressed... could there be a chance it s a false positive?.. or it s certainly apositive hiv diagnosis for me?...and what do I do?

Hello,

You should always avoid unprotected sex, anal sex and multiple partners to avoid getting infected with STI or HIV. You can be infected with HIV if your partner is HIV positive with active infection. HIV gets transmitted by coming in direct contact with the body fluids (blood, semen, vaginal / rectal fluids, breast milk) of a person who has HIV with detectable viral load through cuts or sores.

Yes, malabsorption and diarrhea are common in HIV positive people. Stomach pain and nausea are common gastrointestinal symptoms in people living with HIV. If a viral load is not detected or active, there will be no infection. Yet, get clinically examined, post exposure prophylaxis (PEP) or pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) for HIV may be advised. You may be infected with STI & not HIV. However, get treated at the earliest.
