Are Morphine Drips Effective For Severe Back Pains?

I have had severe back pains the past two years. I now am unable rto walk because the pain goes down my legs and knee. The doctors describe it as damaged nerves due to diabetes and surgeries (2) in the left hip the past 2 uears. They are recommen ding a morphine drip? How safe is this? Do you think this is an answer?
