Are Multiple Thyroid Nodules A Cause For Concern?

I use to have a thyroid nodule and it was shrunk by radioactive iodine treatments, but my thyroid stopped working during this time, so we killed it. My sister now has 7 nodules and 3 are a little larger, but the ENT said he has never seen this many in any one individual. He is worried about 3 of them, do you think this is a bad sign, since there are so many?

Hello,

As per my clinical experience, the number of nodules are not of that much clinical importance, as function of nodule is. There are 2 types of nodules usually came across the thyroid disorders such as HOT and COLD nodules. It is the thyroid uptake scan with iodine which is of paramount importance to reveal hyper or hypo functioning of the nodules till today with anybody. However, if you are having scan reports with recent thyroid function tests, kindly share with me during follow up discussion.
