Are My Symptoms Related To Mast Cell Disease?

My husband has an iGe of 6000 after being on methotrexate for atopic dermatitis for the last 9 months. Before starting methotrexate, his iGe was 20000. His PGD2 is elevated, he has low lymphocytes, low CD2, 4, and, 8. He has multiple food allergies. He has been on steroids for over a year, starting at 60mg a day, now down alternating 5mg one day, and 15mg the next, trying to taper off. He has joint pain, GI disstress, and the atopic is somewhat controlled, though the skin on his face peels (similar to molting) every 3 to 4 days. He does have some open sores from the atopic, but again, that has improved from where we started. we are trying to figure out if perhaps he has a mast cell disease? Can you offer any insight based on what I have told you? And what specialty would treat this if so? Thank you for any help you can give.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

* There can be possible mast cell disease, histiocytosis or other auto immune related disorder as hyper IgE syndrome or else.

A detailed work up with immune specialist is mandatory for the root management guidelines and protocols of standard care.

Till now, he is on best management, however, recent advances with monoclonal therapy is best way to consider in his issue.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
