Are Nasal Decongestant Effective For Ear Infection?

I HAVE BEEN TREATED FOR AN EAR INFECTION THROUGH ANTIBOITICS AND EAR DROPS, TODAY IS DAY 7AND I STILL HAVE EAR PRESSURE AND FLUID IN MY EAR. I AM NOW GOING TO USE A NASAL DECONGESTANT , HOPING IT WILL RELEIVE THE PRESSURE. MY CONCERN IS I AM SUPPOSE TO FLY ON WEDNESDAY, IF THIS DOES NOT CLEAR UP BY THAN SHOULD I CANCEL MY TRIP? OR IS THERE SOMETHING I CAN DO HELP WITH THE PRESSURE OF FLYING?

Thanks for contacting HCM
I am sorry to hear that you have had ear pressure and nasal congestion for over 7 days. Also I read that you have been on antibiotics and ear drops without improvement. In my practice I also recommend using a nasal decongestant spray. Using it twice daily for no more than 1 week may help reduce not only nasal congestion but help reduce ear pressure.

Also before flying use the nasal spray to help reduce pressure changes on your ears.

Hope I answered your medical question. Please contact us again with your medical questions and concerns
