Are Pain And Swelling In The Elbows Symptoms Of Bone Spur?
hi xray showed bone spur. my sister has extreme constant pain in elbow shoulder pain, arm pain, swollen hand and wrist. no injury to elbow. 5 months now...right elbow very swollen, red, no pain, not hot...been on a strong antibiotic for 6 days no sign of swelling going down. dr wont treat painful {left} elbow with a cortisone shot until swelling goes down in right elbow as he says there is a infection in it.I Don t think there is one there. Should I have a blood test to see if I have a infection? Should I have a ultra sound? Iam very worried as my mom had hemangioendothliom cancer in her hand and had to have it amputated. Does this sound like a bone spur?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
As there is a pain with swelling in the elbows, the most common possibility is inflammation from various issues as arthritis or others. Bone spur seems less likely possibility with this intensity of presentation.
You must discuss the requirement of ultrasound and necessary blood test evaluation for better management guidelines with your treating surgeon.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
