Are Pain In Mid Back And Heavy Breathing Post An Injury A Cause For Concern?

63 years old female just fall down the stairs from top floor to basement floor. Reported right mid-back pain and difficult to breath(heavy breathing). Also, reported with left shoulder pain and leg injury on the left side. She is currently laying on the bed which she felt a little more comfortable but the pain persists. She is waiting for her son to be back in around an hour to go to the hospital. Is there any thing I can do or will the waiting endangered her situation?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

If she is still having difficulty with shortness of breath, she should go into the ER where they can do imaging studies and possibly a D-dimer test.

There are a number of things that could have happened which need to be looked into including a fractured vertebra.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Bonnie Berger-Durnbaugh, General & Family Physician
