Are Pimples And Sores In The Scalp While On Testosterone Injections Every Fortnight A Concern?

I am a 71 year old white male and have been getting 200 ml testosterone injections every 3 weeks. My doctor increases it by having me get them every 2 weeks and it works much better. Have been doing this about 1 year now. I seem to have developed a scalp condition for also about 1 year. I get small pimples that erupt into a larger sore just like when I was a teenager. But, it only is on my scalp and no where else. I saw my dermatologist 6 months ago and he thought it was my dry skin problem. I am seeing him again on Friday 10/27/18 and I was hoping you may have some info for me on this. Do you think it is connected to the increase of the injection. Thanks

Hi,

This type of side effects usually do not happen with use of testosterone injections. Only a transient redness, swelling, irritation may be present at the local site of injection. Besides this, very rarely allergic reactions to testosterone may cause hive, itchiness and very rarely anaphylaxis type symptoms.

However, the pimples of the type you are describing do not seem any way related to use of testosterone injection. Your dermatologist seem right in telling you that these may be due to dryness of skin in scalp area. Hence treatment under guidance of your dermatologist may be a right option. In the mean time, you may use moisturizing cream on the affected area.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
