Are Polyps Dangerous If Left Untreated?

Hi I recently made a pelvic test and the doctor said i have 2*1.5 polyp and advised to remove it . my question are these dangerous if left. And to remove it i have to be under GA they told it is a short operation but why Genaral Anesthesia I appreciate you answer
