Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I bought potassium pills at the Dollar General store for my husband s leg cramps. They are made by Rexall Naturalist. He is afraid to take them because they are from the Dollar General strode. They are potassium chloride, potassium gluconate, potassium citrate, potassium nitrate, potassium bicarbonate, potassium sulfate. 99mg 3% daily value. Are they safe?
Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic. I can understand your concern. Yes, this compounds of potassium are safe. No need to worry for any side effects or adverse reactions. But better to first confirm hypokalemia (low potassium) in your husband. Leg cramps can be due to other causes, other than hypokalemia. If he is not having hypokalemia and you give potassium pills, they might cause hyperkalemia and related toxicities. So just confirm hypokalemia and then only give potassium pills. As such this pill is safe. Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wishing good health to your husband. Thanks.
