Hello,
I can understand your concerns and I am trying to give some more information regarding radioactive iodine.
The radioactive pills have different dosages depending on the pathology why it is given. The largest dose is 200 mci and is given after a diagnose of thyroid cancer.
You didn't mention the dose and how many pills did your colleague take but I can say that the radiating effect of the largest dose is about 7 days.
So even if your colleague has taken the largest dose of radioactive iodine the risk of exposure is 7 days.
Hope the information will help.

Kind regards,
Dr.M.Guni
