Are Random Hot Flashes In A Teenager Suggestive Of Onset Of Puberty?
My son is 15 years old and hasn t gone through puberty yet. He has started having random hot flashes. Could this be related to puberty onset? His blood work shows no diabetes and no issues with his thyroid. The doctor has called him a late bloomer .
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. Some of the boys could attain puberty little late. Hot flashes only cannot be taken as sign of puberty. You need to look for development of other secondary sexual characters like growth of axillary hair, pubic hairs, moustache and beard, breaking of voice and growth spurt. If such signs starts appearing, then you could tell that he has attained puberty. Such changes could sometime take about six months to one year to appear. You can check his serum testosterone levels once in 3 months and consult Endocrinologist with the reports for clinical evaluation and management. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best.
