Are Recurring Earache, Nasal Block And Cough Suggestive Of Allergies?

I have had allergy related earache only the right ear, and right nasal passage is partially blocked, runny nose and Cough for at least 5 years, I have been treated with antibiotics and nasal spray and decongestant, but it just keeps coming back every time... Is this allergies or what ? I have an appoint in a month to see a ENT doctor . Im only on the nasal allergy spray now but it really only helps a little bit ..

Hi Dear,

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of recurring earache, nasal block and cough which seems to be due to persistence of respiratory tract infection and it could be due to eustachian tube dysfunction.

Need not to worry. You should do warm saline gargles and apply dry warm compresses to external ear and keep your ear dry , which is very important. You should take ibuprofen or acetaminophen for pain . I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist without any delay so that infection will not spread. Doctor may examine ear with otoscope and may prescribe antibiotic course at least for 10 days along with anti inflammatory and decongestants.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
