Are Seasonal Allergies Related To Swollen Tonsil?

Hi. I have had a swollen right tonsil for about 4 days now. No pain, but the sensation is like having something in my throat that I cant swallow. Ive also had pretty bad seasonal allergies for the past month but have felt better about those in the past week before this tonsil. Might they be related?

Hi,

Noted your history about enlarged tonsil on one side and feeling of having something in throat, no pain or fever, has history of recurrent seasonal allergies, wants to know whether related to each other.
Seasonal allergies could have enlarged both the tonsils simultaneously and also gives enlargement of neck lymph nodes.
Hence the seasonal allergies may not be the resaon for enlargement of one tonsil only.
The commonest causes of one sided enlargement of tonsils can be due to the following reasons:
Cyst in tonsil.
Lymphoma if the CT scan rules out a cyst.
Peritonsillitis.
This can be diagnosed by the following ways:
Get an opinion of an ENT Surgeon.
CT scan helps a lot to know the cause and also whether there are lymph nodes present which then should have FNAC done.
He shall give you an appropriate management after a proper diagnosis and have proper follow up till your are cured.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, ENT and General Surgeon
