Are Severe Headaches And Confusion Symptoms Of Meningitis?

I have been having severe headaches since last Friday with confusion, unable to put sentences together, I didn t know how to put my clothes on, and only knew about 5-6 people. I didn t know I had grandchildren or even my name. I was hospitaliced and cleared of strokes, and egg was normal. Could this be symptoms of meningitis?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Those symptoms may be found in meningitis, but also in many other settings. I don't think that meningitis is likely as you don't mention to have had a high fever, no history of seizures and I also must assume that in the hospital they checked for signs like neck rigidity. Blood tests which I assume you had in hospital usually show raised white blood cell count as well. So while those symptoms may be found in meningitis there are other these other changes completing the clinical picture, in their absence I don't think meningitis is likely.
