Are Sneezing Fits And Recurring Cough Contagious?

My 80 year old husband coughs and has what he calls sneezing fits on an average of thrice weekly. He tells me that his doctor knows about this and tells my husband that this is normal for someone his age. I am concerned that he will spread germs through the air, possibly affecting myself or our grandchildren who spend hours in our home every week. My husband insists that one has to be within three or four feet in order to pass germs and that, since he clears his throat and sneezes into his elbow there is almost no possibility that germs are being spread. May I have your opinion?

he is having allergic rhinitis. might be having chronic bronchitis. keep a hand kerchief with your husband and he should put it in nose and mouth at the time of sneezing and coughing. this will decrease chance of spread of droplet infection.
