Are Sore Throat, Nausea, Vomiting, Fever And Sleepiness Signs Of Scarlet Fever?

Hi, I think I may have mild symptoms of scarlet fever after receiving a letter from my youngest daughter s school advising a student has been diagnosed with it and that was last Thursday. I have had a sore throat, nausea, vomiting, no appetite, fever, sleepy, body aches and a rash on my chest that looks like sunburn. Temperature was 38 but now 37.6. I can t feel swollen glands around the neck area. I feel hot but sometimes cold. My tongue is red but not strawberry red. My body feels itchy all over. My ankles seem a little swollen. My face doesn t seem flushed maybe a little yellow or pale sometimes. I have also been having terrible and smelly flatulance (sorry too much information) like rotten eggs. No one else in the Family (I live with my elderly Parents and my 13 and 7 year old). I contacted my Doctor who advised to stay away from work this week and will come to my house this afternoon. Is it ok to take Nurofen for the body aches especially my headache? I have also taken Maxalon to curb the nausea and vomiting. He believes I need antibiotics. Could this be scarlet fever or a bad case of flu? Thanks, Clem.

Hello!
I have been through your question.
Related your concern you should know that scarlet fever is caused by the same type of bacteria that cause strep throat. In scarlet fever, the bacteria release a toxin that produces the rash and red tongue. The infection spreads from person to person when an infected person coughs or sneezes. Scarlet fever germs spread more easily among people in close contact, such as family members or classmates. Usually children 5 to 15 years of age are more likely than are other people to get scarlet fever, but according to some reports, some cases are being seen in adults. However, people of any age can get the illness. What I suggest first for you is testing for the strep bacteria and do a physical examination by a doctor, full blood count, protein c reactive, fibrinogen,in order to define better or to exclude the diagnosis. Tests for streptococcus are important because a number of conditions can cause the signs and symptoms of scarlet fever, and these illnesses may require different treatments. If there are no strep bacteria, then some other factor is causing the illness for example the virus (flu). Furthermore you can use nurofen for body aches and maxalon for vomiting and of course if you have scarlet fever is recommended using of antibiotics prescribe by your doctor (amoxicillin or ampicillin or penicillin if you aren't allergic).
I hope my answer help you.
I wish you a quick recovery.
