Are Spotting And Cramps While Taking Minastrin Suggestive Of Pregnancy?
Hi, I have been taking birth control for the last 3 years, starting with Loestrin 24 Fe in 2012, then switching to Trinessa at the end of 2013, and finally switching to Minastrin 24 Fe in June of this year. I am currently on my 3rd week of my first Minastrin pack and I ve been cramping and spotting for the last 3 days. When switching to Minastrin, I took the first active pill the day after I took my last inactive pill from my Trinessa pack. My boyfriend and I always have unprotected sex and I NEVER miss a pill and always take my pill at the same time every day. I m worried I may be pregnant because of the spotting and cramping, is this very likely? I m supposed to have my first period from the Minastrin pack at the end of next week
While switching from one type of birth control pill to another pill, it is safe to use another method of contraception such as barrier method (condoms) for the first week of switching the pills. This will allow time for the hormonal balance. Since you have mentioned a history of unprotected sex, chance of pregnancy is possible. Spotting and cramps can occur as a side effect of the pill or also due to implantation bleeding. Kindly take a pregnancy test 2 weeks after sexual intercourse.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
