Are Steroids Harmful?

I am 71, few years ago I had remove a fibroid from my right ankle, it never heal, now the doctor as prescribe steroid for my swollen ankle and inflammation, the swelling is going down little bit, but I worried about the steroid, if are danger. Excuse my writing am from Italy my English is self taught. Thank you.
