Are Sweets Not A Safe Diet During Pregnancy?

Hi doctors, Mrs.Mahalakshmi.Now my wife is carrying 60 days (2 months) a baby? She is very much interested to consume more Sweets and readily available Glucose drinks?
Whether due to heavy sweetness and glucose . her pregnancy get effect/defect?
My grand father is saying.. avoid sweets while carrying? is it true?

Hello sir,I understand your concern.In my opinion it is not good to eat excess sweets and readily available glucosinated drinks.Because they cause excess weight predisposing to diabetes in.pregnancy and its complications.If your wife is thin built then she can gain upto 15 kgs.If she is optimum weight average weight gain in pregnancy is 10 kg.If she is overweight or obese before pregnancy then weight gain is limited upto 5 to 6 kg.So chk that and proceed accordingly.A healthy nutritional diet is always preferred.
