Are Taking Azithromycin And Predisone Strong Enough To Prevent The Infection Due To Pneumonia?
My husband has endocarditis 3 times. He has had two valve replacements. He just has been diagosed with pneumonia. The infection doctor prescribed azithromycin and predisone. If the infection attacks the valve again they cannot replace it again. Is this prescription strong enough to not have the infection spread.
Thanks for your question on HCM. If it is confirmed pneumonia than prednisone should not be given as it is steroid and cause immunosuppression and actually worsens the pneumonia. So advice you to consult pulmonologist and get done sputum examination for causative organism and if sputum is not available get done bronchoscopy and BAL examination. There are very few indications to use steroids in pneumonia. So better to be sure first than use steroids. You may need dual antantibiotics.
