Are There Any Interactions Between Transcore, Xanax And Zoloft?

I had poison oak back in March. My doctor prescribed predisone (sp?) which cleared it up asap. However, six weeks later I developed sever allergy symptons, i.e. tingling in arms, hands, legs and feet; then heart began heating hard and fast, then my face would become hot and flushed (guessed my blood pressure was going up). This scared me. I went to ER two different times and had EMS out to my house four times during the early morning hours. I was feeling light-headed almost all day. This went on for about two weeks before doctor prescribed Zoloff and then Xanax to eliminate the symptoms by increasing the zoloff dosage to 50 mg at bedtime and increased the Xanax from 25 mg three times per day to 50 mg of Xanax morning and evening. I told the doctor I was still feeling light-headed and thought there was more to this situation than food allergies. I have since went to different doctor and had extensive blood tests to determine a list of food to which I am allergic, condition of thyroid, hormones, electrolytes, various minerals in blood, etc. I am now taking Calcium 600 mg, Magnesium 5-600 mg, , Zinc 50 mg per day. I also am eating fermented beets and/or sauerkraut which I am told will heal my intestional tract. I do not want to be on the Xanax and have, by my own choice, reduced my dosage to 25 mg at 7am, 2pm and 7pm. So far not too much dizziness experienced at this point. However, this new doctor also prescribed Transcor (sp) to relax my brain (or me). I am concerned about the interaction of these drugs. Am I doing the right thing and how long must I do this.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Taking Xanax along with Zoloft may increase your blood levels of Xanax or cause it to stay in your body longer which results in excessive drowsiness, gait disturbances, impaired memory and lack of concentration. You may need a dose adjustment to safely take both medications.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
