Are There Any Long Term Side Effects Of Amtas-AT (5+25) On Heart?
I have been using Amtas m-5/25 tablet for hypertension for the past 2 years. What are the long term effects on body and heart? I am 60 yrs old. My resting pulse rate before starting medication was 60-65 and current pulse rate is 50-60. is this good? any change im medication recommended? I do walking at good pace daily for 45 mins...I play games to keep fit often..
The drug you mentioned is a combination of atenolol+amlodipine. Out of these, atenolol can decrease heart rate a bit. For healthy and well trained people, a heart in and around 60 is not something to be worried. But if you feel symptoms like light headedness, fatigue, you may request your doctor to stop or replace the drug. But this depends on factors like level of BP control and any co-existing disease like ischemic heart disease.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam TK, Pediatrician
