Are There Any Negative Interactions Between GABA, Fluoxetine And Xanax?

Hi,

I have just bought a food supplement called GABA which is an amino acid compound which is produced in the body's metabolism of glutamine in order to sleep better. I would like to know if there is an interactions with some other medications which I am on and particularly Fluoxetine, Xanax and Seroquel.
Thank you.

Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries

I can understand your concern. GABA supplements are aminoacid supplements and are relatively safe. You are on Fluoxetine, Seroquel and Xanax. Fluoxetine is a SSRI drug and the drug has not much significant drug interactions with GABA and you can take the drug without any fear.

Similarly Seroquel or Quetiapine is an antipsychotic drug and the drug can be taken without fear. No risk associated with GABA. But increased sedation, dizziness can occur so keep some time gap between the two.

Xanax and GABA together may result in increased sedation and sometimes may cause sleepiness, nausea, brain fog like states in some susceptible individuals. So I would advise you to discuss with your psychiatrist before starting that supplement. Though there is no significant risk associated.

Thanks, Hope this helps you. Take care
