Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My friend had a c-section on 10-4-11. She has had an elevated BP since. The started her on metoprolol 50mg daily with no improvement then doubled the metoprolol. They changed her to hctz last week because the metoprolol was not working. Today her blood pressure is 135/98. We have checked it severa times today with the lowest being 140/90. Any suggestions?
Hi Hctz is a good first line antihypertensive. As this drug has started only one week back, you can wait one more week. Meanwhile record bp. If there is no drastic shoot up nothing to worry. Your doctor will gradually escalate the dose or will add other agents in appropriate time. Also check your salt intake and try to lower down it.for regular exercise. Everything will be alright
Thank you
