Are There Any Side Effects Of Taking Actos?

I have type 2 diabetes; I was on 2000 mg of metformin w/ 10mg of glimepiride (sp) ... after 3 years of this medication, my whole abdominal cavity hurt... it was internal, but touching my torso hurt too. so, my dr. took me off the meds and had me take prilosec - after 2 weeks, my torso started feeling better. my dr then increased the

glimepiride to 20 mg, taking me off metformin and addting actos. I don't like the way I feel on the medication, and quite honestly, I don't like the idea of using a product that lawyers are currently running lawsuits against.

Is my only other option insulin?

Diabetologist 's  Response
Dear madam/sir i can understand your concern.
In my opinion ,In elderly females this medication is not advisable because its associated with hip fractures.
in young males it can be used but with caution.
there will be slight weight gain also with this medication.
coming to Next line of medication there are many new drugs available
1.DPP-4 inhibitors and GLP-1 analogs
2.SGLT2 inhibitors.
both of this drugs are relatively safe and can be tried before starting insulin.
