Are There Any Side Effects Of Using Valance And Lithocent For Depression ?

Hi Doctor, I ve a question regarding below tablets. 1) Valance OD 1g 2) Lithocent - CR --450 mg One of my best friends husband has below problem and the psychiatrist suggested above medicines to him. He will be in depression for some things(which happens for so many of us infact we ignore) but he can t foget them for ages because of this his mood swings. He will repeat the same things again and again and yell at people. He is very talented but feels like he is low and can t achieve anything because of someone especially his wife. Will there be any side effects if he doesn t use these tablets regularly? My friend is about to plan for kids so is it suggestable at this point of time? Please consider her case. Awaiting for your reply. Thanks, Jeevani.

Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hello Welcome to HCM

He is having depressive symptoms for many day to day things. He has mood swings, complaints of yelling and abusing people. He has projective ideas that he can't achieve because of his wife. Probably he is suffering form Bipolar disorder.

He has been prescribed Sodium Valproate 1000 mg and Lithium Carbonate 450 mg tablets. Both of these drugs are used in bipolar disorder to stabilise the mood and to treat aggressive behaviour. These medicines should be taken regularly as prescribed by doctor. Advise him to not to stop treatment against medical advise. If he will not use the medicines regularly then most likely his condition will deteriorate further.

Currently he is on treatment and is not in stable condition so as per my opinion idea of having a child should be postponed for some time. Once he start showing improvement then they can consult a Psychiatrist and can think about child birth.

Hope this helps you, thanks
