Are There Any Side Effects Of Withdrawing Diuretic?

What kind of medicine is Triamter Hctz 37 and Hctz 25 mg Tab QT? I was lead to believe they were nothing more than water pills. And nothing to worry about. They were making my ankles swell up worse they ever had in my life. so i just stopped taking them about 5 months ago mainly because they were making me sick and the trips to the bathroom every 20 minutes was annoying everyone and my ankles were swelling bad. After i stopped, I haven't felt sick and my ankles haven't swollen once. Then i read the answer about throwing blood pressure meds away and the fact that if you stopped taking your diuretic that the hypertensiveness would eventually come back. I haven't stopped anything but the diuretic that i thought was just a water pill.
