YES. ARE THERE SYMPTOMS FOR PLAQUE IN THE ARTERIES? MY EMAIL ADDRESS IS YYYY@YYYY . MY DR. WANTS ME TO UNDERGO CT CARDIAC SCORING TEST. BECAUSE I AM DIABETIC AND BECAUSE OF THAT SHE THINKS AM AT HIGH RISK FOR CARDOVASC DISEASE. SHOULD I BE HIGHLY CONCERNED ABOUT THIS.

Hi there,

It really depends on where the plaques are located. If you have artherosclerotic disease in the blood vessels in your legs, then you may have pain with activity. However, if you have plaques in the arteries in your heart, the first sign is often a heart attack. I would agree with your doctor that being diabetic puts you at high risk, and that you should undergo the tests she recommends.

I'd also recommend making sure your cholesterol and diabetes are under good control, and to get at least 30 minutes of exercise each day.
