I am curious. I have been on Norvasc (amlodipine) 10mg for approximately nine months now, and although I have minimal side effects, I would like to consider weaning myself off due to my feeling about not wishing to take any prescription drugs, ever. I know my body. I have changed my diet considerably, I exercise more regularly, have completely stopped drinking any caffeine products and recently self-diagnosed myself to be gluten intolerant, and I am a vegetarian. I work more than sixty hours a week as I own, direct and teach a small preschool center and do not agree with nor have time for this every three month regimen to see my doctor. And now she wants blood tests, just because. Why? So she can prescribe me more medications? I am passionately uninterested in living the rest of my life on prescription meds. For years I was taking three antacids a day. Once, I forced myself to resist and choose a natural alternative like baking soda, and weaned off of it, the heartburn vanished. I no longer need it. The same thing happened with aspirin. I used to get headaches every day. Once I stopped relying on aspirin, the headaches disappeared. I am hoping you are a doctor that understands my issue and will support my natural method to living. If I am ever serious ill, I will go see a doctor. But when here I am healthy, so why do I have to, exactly? I only had to see a doctor because of the new laws. Please tell me there is a way to wean myself off of amlodipine, safely. Do I take one every other day and then every fourth day or a half a day for a few months until I can completely stop? Though, I promise to address this with my doctor on my next three month visit before I actually consider weaning off. I was merely hoping for some knowledge to how to go about doing so, to suggest to my doctor and explain my reasons for not wanting to do all the unnecessary blood tests.
