Are Weight Gain And Hair Fall Caused Due To Hypothyroidism?
hi i am 26 years old female with hypothyroidism since last 2 years. my medication is thyronorm 62.5 and T3 ans T4 are normal but from last 2 3 months there have been abrupr changes i have gained weight of approx 3.5kgs in 2months without any lifestyle change also now my hand fingers have swollen a bit and there is more hair fall. can you please guide on the problems faced
If both the T3 and T4 are normal then the weight gain and hair loss are not likely related to your thyroid. Hair loss can be due to different possible causes such as: infection of the scalp, physical illness or trauma, surgery, anemia, side effect of medication, heart or kidney disease. In some persons, the exact cause is not known. You may need to be reviewed by your doctor to find the cause of these symptoms.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care.
Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James, General & Family Physician
