Armpit Hair Is Matted And Dry. Is This A Symptom?

I am a fifty year old male.About a year ago I noticed that my arm pit hair had become matted, dry and crusty. it grossed me out so much I started shaving my pits.I did let the hair grow back recently and the hair of one pit was a little more normal but the other was the same. I was wondering if this is a symptom of something?
