Baby Having Soft Expanding Bump Behind Right Ear. Red Spots Also Present. What Is It And Treatment?

I have a 3 month old baby with a soft bump about an inch behind her right ear. On the surface of the skin she has two very small red spots which seems like if it was an abrasion. However, it has been there for two weeks with no improvement and I think the bump/mass seems to be getting bigger. It also seems to have a slight purple pigment. It feels soft and is mobile when you press it with your fingers. I'm worried as to what it could be.

Hi thanks for writing to healthcare magic. Soft bump with red spots in a 3 month old baby is suggestive of haemangioma.A hemangioma is a benign swelling of the endothelial cells that line blood vessels and is characterised by increased number of normal or abnormal vessels filled with blood. It usually appears during the first weeks of life and It is common in infancy. . Hemangioma grows very quickly up to 12 months of age and then there is very little change in it's appearance for 1 to 2 years of age and then it will start regressing. It will completely disappear by the age of 5 to 7 years of age. So my advise is not to get panic about it.Only thing for concern is ,it may get ruptured causing bleeding and secondary infection. You can consult your doctor in such situations.Take care .
