Dear Adele...
There is a connecting tract (known as Eustachian tube) between the
nasopharynx & middle ear through which infection can spread to ear.
Also obstruction to this Eustachian tube can lead to
ear pain by un-equalisation of pressure between the nasopharynx & middle ear.

The management consists of:
1. Antihistamines to provide symptomatic relief from cold
2. Nasal decongestants to relieve ET tube obstruction.
3. Analgesics to take care of pain & fever(if any)
4. Antibiotics depending upon culture & sensitivity reports to remove the causative organism.
So...it will be better to consult an
ENT specialist & start treatment.
Meanwhile...avoid taking cold food & drinks, maintain adequate hydration & take soft, non-spicy foods.
Wishing you a Good Health. Let me know if I need to clarify further.
Thanks & take care.
