Become More Fatigued, Labs Came Back Negative For Diabetes, Low Stress, Feel Sleepy. Treatment?
I am 75 years old and over the last 8 months I have become more fatigued. I feel like I could fall asleep at any time. I saw my M.D. 3 months ago, labs came back negative for diabetes, nothing else remarkable. I am an R.N. and work 23 hours a week as a nurse in a High School (low stress) I feel like I am ready to sleep all the time. I sleep 7 to 7 and 1/2 hours per night and wake up refreshed, but have a feeling of sleepiness almost all of the time.
It is a little strange that though you sleep as much as 7hours per night, you still feel sleepy during the day. This raises the question of the quality of your sleep. Do you wake up multiple times at night? Do you snore? Do you have any headaches during the day? If these are true and your weight not well controlled, then you may need to be investigated for sleep apnoea. Did your doctor also check your thyroid numbers? This is good to be addressed. In all, you would need a sleep study.Talk this out with your doctor. This would essentially document the quality of the sleep you get.
If the above don't apply to you, then you need to investigated for narcolepsy. Treatment consists mainly of stimulants to keep you focused and not sleepy. Please, arrange and get about 30inutes nap daily during the day. It may be of great help.
I hope this helps. I wish you well. feel free to ask for ore information if need be. Thanks. Dr. Ditah, MD
