Hi..
Diabetes can lead to neuropathy.Especially peripheral neuropathy. In peripheral neuropathy the proprioception (joint position sense) will be affected. Our balance is combination of different mechanisms which includes vision, proprioception, labrynthine system and cerebellum in the brain.Any problem of these centres will affect our balance. For a diabetic patient the notorious is peripheral neuropathy. You can do a neuropathy assessment to rule out that. Also look for ear pathology if you have vertigo...Thyroid abnormality again can lead to labrynthine abnormality.
I hope that you will be benefited with my suggestions
