Biopsy Positive For H. Pylori. Contagious? Taking Antibiotics
AFTER 3 ENDOSCOPY PROCEDURES WHERE I TESTED NEGATIVE FOR H.PYLORI BACTERIAON THE FIRST TWO, THE THIRD TIME THE BIOPSY CAME BACK POSITIVE. I'M WONDERING IF BEING IN THE COMPANY OF OTHERS COULD POSSIBLY TRANSMIT THIS AWFUL STUFF TO THEM? I DON'T PLAN ON DOING ANY KISSING, SHARING UTENSILS, OR WHATEVER. I WASH MY HANDS FREQUENTLY AS WELL. I'M CURRENTLY TAKING 3000 MG. OF TWO DIFFERENT ANTIBIOTICS PER DAY AND HAVE BEEN ON THIS REGIMEN SINCE LAST THURSDAY, 6/7. ANY ANSWERS YOU COULD GIVE ME WOULD BE APPRECIATED. THANKS, M.E. KNUDSEN
Hi Knudsen and thanks for this query. Sorry to hear about what you are experiencing.
H. pylori is transmitted through feco-oral route route either through direct contamination or objects contaminated with this germ. It is not transmitted through kissing. The best way to avoid future contamination is to make sure you wash your hands always before eating, conserve food appropriately and take proper care of anything that gets into your mouth. I suggest you continue sharing with others because this in itself cannot cause transmission of the germ unless you do not follow these basic hygiene rules.
Hope this helps you and guide you on how to go about prevention. Wish you good health. Dr. Ditah
