Bipolar Disorder. Suicidal. On Medication. When Will She Recover?

hello doctor, my name is pooja,my sister is suffering from bipolar disorder.her age is 19 yrs,i m not in india she is alone i lost our parents. Now a days she lived with my younger brother.symptom are nonstop talking, not sleeping in whole night,repeat one point again and again. trying to suicide.she slept only when she take the pills.pls tell me the recovery period of this disease and pls share ur fee structure.

Hi Pooja,
Sorry to hear that you have lost your parents.
Bipolar disorder is characterized by two extremes of mood swings..either elevation (mania) or depression.It is a disorder characterized by recurrences.
It is now evident that your sister is in the manic phase as characterized by excessive talking & decreased sleep.She needs to be treated immediately with adequate dosages of medications to abate the episode.Once the episode has remitted she will be have to be put on maintenance medication to prevent further recurrences.
Two things are very important in the management of Bipolar Disorder
1.The need for continuous and regular medications
2.The avoidance of possible triggers such as sleeplessness and other bio social causes which your treating doctor will be able to list out.
