Bite Marks On Arm. Usually Gets Hives When Skin Touches Certain Items. Could It Just Be Hives?

Hello! For the past few days I keep getting what appear to be bite marks on my arm! But, its only on my right arm and usually only when I'm at work. Could it just be hives? I do get hives when my skin touches certain items. i.e. plastics, sticky tape, etc. These definitely have more of a "bite appearance" than what I am used to! I have thoroughly searched the area where I sit and have found no site of insects.

Hi! Thank you for your question and welcome to our site.

Hives are red, very itchy, smooth, raised areas of skin which can vary in size and shape. The center of the lesion often is pale compared to the surrounding inflamed areas. Also, hives usually do not last longer than 12 hours, have a tendency to change size rapidly and to even move around. Insect bites are more well-demarcated and round compared to hives and sometimes last more than a day.

Both are very possible especially with your history of skin allergy - there may be something on your chair or table that either bites you or irritates your skin. Try cleaning your work area very well to remove any offending chemical or biological irritants and then apply an insect repellant. You may consult a dermatologist to be sure.

Take care and I wish you the best of health!
