Bites Or Welts On Arms And Legs. What Can They Be?
We live in Maine and my 6 yr old daughter has been experiencing a lot of welts/bites all over her legs and arms. They seem raised and white (almost misquito/spider like bite) in the middle then about a silver dollar sized red area around them. They are very itchy and no matter what bug spray we use they seem to just pop out of no where. Can you explain what they might be. Her pediatrician says they are just bug bites, but I m not very confident in them due to other issues we have dealt with.
Hello there. The lesions you describe fit the description of a condition called erythema multiforme that are 'target' like lesions. Yes it is very possible it may be related to an insect bite reaction or /& a viral infection. You need to ascertain if the child has had any preceding viral infection in the week or two leading up to this rash or if you have taken the child outdoors & any similar lesions in other kids in the school or vicinity. Use a topical steroid-antibiotic combination cream twice/day & if a bite reaction, together with an antihistamine syp, this should suffice. Dont worry, it will be better soon. Cheers.
