Bitten By Doctor Fly, Stiff Knee, Oozing Clear Yellow Fluid

Hello, I was bitten by a doctor fly in Belize a few days ago about 5 inches below my left knee .My left knee has begun to act like it has arthritis now and is getting stiff.I injure d that knee over 10 years ago and the stiffness had gone away until now. The bite itself is oozing clear, yello fluid and has mostly stopped that now. WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOM SOF A DOCTOR FLY BITE AND could it be affecting my formerly injured knee_ Many Thanks,

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Sorry to hear of this trouble.
I would recommend that you see your doctor right away.... you may even wish to go to Urgent Care or to the ER if you are having fever and chills.
Without an exam I can not be sure but I would be concerned with infection that will need antibiotics and possible drainage of the knee joint. without treatment an infection, if present, could progress to the joint and bone. this is a much more serious situation.
Again, this may just be inflammation however it would be in your best interest to be evaluated as soon as possible
Good luck!!
