Bitten By Vaccinated Dog, Bleeding With Teeth Marks. On Tetanus And Anti-rabies Injection. Will This Take Care Of Previous Dog Bites Too?

Sir almost around 2 months back i was bitten by a small dog aroung 5-6months old while playing with the dog. There was a scratch line which had a slight bleeding ...We have not given any vaccination so far to the dog..i applied some spirit that time thinking that the dog may not be poisonous as its just a few months old. Till date both me n my dog is fine..recently last sunday 19.05.2013 i had another bite from my uncles dog..that dog has already beaten 2-3 people earlier. uncle's dog gets vaccinated regularly. This time i had bleeding with the teeth mark of the dog.. one inch below the Left inguinal region.i had my poisoned removed first than took both tetanus & an anti-rabies injection on my shoulder. i wanted to know about my vaccination schedules & also do tell me about the risk factors in both the cases. i took it less seriously in the first few days & had some oily items too...now recently read in news that 3 people died due to dog bite(different dog) i m very much concerned about my health now..the dog that biten me is ok. since i am taking the antirabies injection now ..will it also take care of the previous dog bite by the small dog which is not given any vaccination till date.

Hi,
Welcome to HCM,
After going through your history, you have history of dog bite a and taking anti rabies postexposure vaccine which is recommended as there is no cure for rabies.
Elimination of rabies virus at the site of infection by chemical or physical means is the most effective mechanism of protection, immediate washing and flushing with soap and water, then apply spirit or Povidone iodine.
a total of 5 injections of a 1.0 mL dose of vaccine are given according to the following schedule: on Day 0, 3, 7, 14, 30 and a booster dose at 90 days if required.
If the dog is healthy then reduced 3 or 4 injection are given of modern HDCV type vaccine it must be given in deltoid upper limb only.
In Your case first dog was not suffering from rabies, other dog is vaccinated so just take proper vaccine.
Anti tetanus injections and antibiotics as prescribed by doctor to heal the wound. You can take normal diet.
Please do not worry.
Take care.
Good Luck.
