Bleeding After Wisdom Teeth Extraction. How Long Before Pain Due To Dry Socket Begins?
Hello! My name is Melinda. Last Monday I had both of my bottom wisdom teeth extracted. Yesterday as I was brushing my teeth my hand slipped and poked the hole of the extraction sight and started bleeding. I'm afraid I may have dislodged the blood clot. That was around 10 PM (Monday) and it is now 2:56 Am (Tuesday). If I am developing dry socket how long does it take before the pain begins? If it wasn't the blood clot being dislodged then what was it? Also how does a blood clot develop? And last but not least, I have been eating. If food gets stuck in the holes does my body naturally push it out or will the gum heal over it? I have been doing the salt water rinses but I don't feel like it's enough. Thank you for your time! Have a great day!
please do not be worried at all.It is not necessary that it is the the clot which is dislodged accidentally by you,it could be simply a mass of collectcateded debris too.
just because yesterday you have got the extraction done,so probably it could have bleed more on slight accidental touch.
The clot is very stable by nature and doesnot get easily disturbed unless you do forceful rinsing or gargling or put your finger into the extracted socket to touch.
Therefore please follow post extraction instructions religiously and forget about dry socket.
If you find any unusual symptom like dull continuous ache, swelling or infection which is beyond three to five days, then we can suspect something like dry socket, presently just take semisolid diet and medication properly.
hi... thanks for the query... dont worry... dry socket usually occurs 3-4 days post extraction... and is very painful... i dont think it will proceed to dry socket... still you visit your dentist once and got it irrigated... and if any food got stuck... your body will not push it out naturally... it has to be removed either by warm saline rinses or by irrigation... so go for it... hope it will help... take care...
Hi Thanks for the query, Trauma to extraction site was cause of bleeding so don't worry. Bite on gauze for 20 minutes to stop bleeding. If you don't have gauze then try a black tea bag, or scrap of very clean soft cloth. For the tea bag just dampen it and then bite down on it for an hour or so like you do with the gauze. Dry socket develops due to poor oral hygiene after 4-5 days. Maintain oral hygiene and continue warm saline rinses for a week. Take care
A wound healing occurs after 2-3 weeks, dry socket is an extremely painful condition that occurs due to dislodgement of the blood clot for the extraction site, usually occurs after 4-5 days and is associated with bad breath and fever.
According to your symptoms i suspect that bleeding seen can be due to irritation caused to the granulation tissue of the healing socket.
I would suggest you to follow the post extraction instruction given to you carefully. Take complete course of antibiotics and analgesics. Take lukewarm slaine and antiseptic mouthwash rinses.
Hope this helps out.
Regards...
